A ‘Grand’ affair
Following extensive public consultation and months of building work, Oasis UK’s latest youth and community project, The Grand in Clitheroe, officially opens its doors on 30 March 2008.

Thanks to the generosity of the Lancaster Foundation, a charitable trust local to the town, Clitheroe’s former cinema has been transformed into a much needed state of the art community facility complete with professional recording studios, performance and rehearsal spaces, a cyber café and a multi-purpose auditorium for use by local young people and community groups. A range of educational and health care programmes will also be run from the venue in partnership with other local organisations and service providers.
The launch event at The Grand will enable members of the local community to see for themselves that Oasis has listened carefully to what they have to say. With our partners, we will be providing those activities and facilities identified as making the most difference to the lives of the people of Ribble Valley. So, if you’re in the area and would like to join in with our exciting family events and worship please do come and join us.
Oasis UK is also managing Clitheroe’s redeveloped skate park providing an outlet for around 150 young people a day to channel their energy and learn new skills at the same time. Current plans include the opening of a skate shop next to The Grand and the development of a mobile skate park to help beat rural isolation – a significant problem in the area and provide an opportunity for the young people of Ribble Valley to be able to skate whenever and wherever they want.
