Just Education in a Corrupt World
Just Education was developed by Oasis to tackle issues of corruption and injustice within the education system in Mozambique, in order to provide an environment where young people can be encouraged to be all they were created to be, as Jill Lovell, Just Education Project Manager explains,
“Our Vision is to see young people confidently making positive life choices and living up to their potential. Oasis is providing education that’s free from corruption and is rooted in integrity and transparency.”

Since Oasis began Just Education in 2005, 1,800 students, 1,000 trainee teachers and 150 teachers and school directors have been positively impacted by the project. Material has been written for moral and values education that is taught as a part of the Civil Society Curriculum in 8 schools and 2 teacher training centres around Beira. HIV & AIDS seminars for teachers and workshops for students have also been delivered in several schools throughout 2007.
In 2008 the project will expand to include a further 3 schools, and the anti-corruption component will be developed.
Here is what students are saying about Just Education:
“It is helping me to change my behaviour. It is helping me to treat other people well, to not abuse my teachers or colleagues.”
“It is helping me because it is teaching me things that my parents haven’t taught me, like how to respect others. I like it a lot because it is teaching us how to live in society and how to create a better future for ourselves.”
“This subject shouldn’t just be taught in school, but also outside of school, because people need to know about morals and integrity. What we are learning gives us what we need for day to day life.”
After working with so many students and teachers, making a really difference in their lives, this work is under threat as funding comes to an end. Please pray that funding can be found so that the positive impact of Just Education can continue in the coming years.
