News from Oasis Kyrgyzstan
You may have seen the recent violent revolution in Kyrgyzstan in the news...
85 people died and more than a thousand others were injured in mass demonstrations against the Government. An interim government is now writing a new constitution in preparation for the Presidential Elections in October.
Thankfully the Oasis team, who have been working in Kyrgyzstan since March 2008, are safe, but the experience has been traumatic. Their work has been limited by the social instability and risk involved in travelling.
“The future is uncertain” says Thirza Schneider of Oasis Kyrgyzstan. “The economy has been thrown back several years. People are poor and now have even less hope for a better future. Our work is more needed than ever.
Please pray that these events will not be able to stop our widespread people trafficking campaign or our sports and life skills program at the boys' reform school. We also want to start our supported living and vocational training program for street/orphan girls and boys this summer.”
Our work in Kyrgyzstan is needed more than ever. Please remember the team during this uncertain time.
