Archbishop Rowan Williams to address Charities Parliament: How churches should respond to the Big Society

The Archbishop of Canterbury will consider the encouragement that the Government's vision of the Big Society offers to local churches and Christian organisations to extend their creative engagement with their communities.

Archbishop Rowan WilliamsDr Williams will be joined by Bob Reitemeier, CEO of Children’s Society and Fran Becket OBE to talk about how to get to grips with the new government’s guiding philosophy and what the Big Society could look like at a local level.

This is the second of the Charities Parliament Big Society series and will be at The Oasis Centre, London on 23 July.

Steve Chalke MBE and Founder of Oasis UK, Stop The Traffik and Oasis Community Learning will chair the evening and ensure there is time for debate and dialogue on the issues raised.

Steve Chalke said: The vision behind the Big Society is to empower local people to run local projects, schools, and community centres, giving Christians an opportunity to be at the heart of the government’s transformational agenda. This is another chance for the public, through the platform of the Charities Parliament, to debate how Christians should engage with the policies of government.’
