Leaving a gift in a will
Help make a lasting impact with Oasis
Oasis currently receives very few gifts in people’s wills. Yet the gifts we have received have enabled us to achieve so much. Whether you can give £5 or £500,000, every gift will go towards helping us transform individuals and communities in both the UK and around the world.
Leaving a will
No one likes thinking about their death, yet without a will you lose control over what happens to your property and possessions when you’re gone. If you die without a will, decisions over your property or estate will be taken by the government. This could result in many of your loved ones missing out and almost certainly your favourite charities.
A short time spent talking to a solicitor to make a will ensures your wishes will be carried out. This can help reduce stress for your loved ones.
Finding a Solicitor
There are many do-it-yourself will guides around but it is by far the best approach to consult a solicitor. You may consider asking a friend if they have used a wills solicitor. Alternatively you can call the Law Society on 0870 606 2555 who will give you details of your local solicitors.
If you would like to leave a legacy gift to Oasis in your will please contact your solicitor and they will advise you on the wording of your will.
Updating your will
It is vital to keep your will up to date. Generally you should review your will each time a significant life event happens such as getting married, a new child/grandchild or moving house.
It is relatively simple to add a charity to your existing will using a codicil. Please consult your solicitor for more information.

Remembering the people of Zimbabwe
“Growing and using herbs has become a way of life for me and my family. My doctor noted a huge improvement in my health when I went for my last check up. I hardly get sick anymore especially from illnesses such as flu that used to often bug me.” Jonah

The catastrophic economic conditions in Zimbabwe have led to food shortages that have put many families at increased risk of starvation. Those affected by HIV/AIDS are particularly at risk as they rely on a nutritious diet to ward off infections and respond to anti-retroviral medicine. Jonah and his family are beneficiaries of the farming training provided by Oasis Zimbabwe. A key element of this training is helping people create their own herbal gardens. This is having a massive impact in many families’ lives and is showing how small changes really can make a big difference.
The provision of this farming training is just one of the pieces of work made possible by a £20,000 gift left to Oasis Zimbabwe by a supporter in his will. Having lived and worked in Zimbabwe for a number of years and seen the devastating number of lives stolen by HIV/AIDS he left a gift in his will to help Oasis continue our vital work with those suffering in Zimbabwe.
Oasis Zimbabwe is working in partnership with churches and community organisations to support children, young people and families blighted by poverty, unemployment and HIV/AIDS.
Gifts left in a will are vital to our work helping vulnerable children, young people and their families in the UK and around the world. They enable us to bring transformation and change to the people and communities most in need.
