Oasis Mozambique: healing from abuse
Oasis Mozambique has just held a training course for 30 volunteer student counsellors as a part of the Just Education programme.
Young people in Mozambique are constantly at risk of abuse. They can be sexually abused by relatives, neighbours and teachers, they are physically abused by parents and teachers, and they suffer emotional abuse from society.
Until now there has been little assistance for these young people. Generally parents don't communicate with their children about issues they are facing, and there are few role models in communities for the youth to look up to.
In response to this, Oasis Mozambique is training and working alongside volunteers who will offer counselling and support to students in schools. We believe that with support from others who will listen to their story and accept them, these young people will be able to move past the tragedies in their lives and step into a bright future.
