Oasis Academies
Over the last few years Oasis Community Learning has opened 11 Academies, each with its own individual flavour and identity.
Based in Bristol, Southampton, London, Grimsby, Immingham and Salford, our Academies have taken up the challenge of serving their local communities in a holistic and exciting way. Throughout this process we have broken new ground, overcome problems and grown in our experiences, together, working with all involved to deliver a 21st century education for each area
in which we are based.
During this process it has been hugely important to work closely with our parents/carers to support our students and help them to achieve their absolute best, but also to smooth the transition phase from Primary to Secondary education. We spoke to Teresa Cook, a parent of two students at Oasis Academy Coulsdon to see how the partnership with parents/carers had benefitted her two daughters:
"I have three children. My son attended the predecessor school and left before the Academy
opened, my eldest daughter was enrolled at the predecessor school and was in her last year
when the Academy opened, and my youngest daughter had one year at the predecessor school before the Academy opened. I have therefore experienced both sides of parental partnership with the school.
Oasis has dramatically improved the communication with parents which gives us confidence that safety and pastoral care are priorities and that they form the base from which effective learning takes place. A big difference is that the Academy staff have taken the time to get to know me and my family personally, whereas previously this was not always the case.
My youngest daughter did not have a good first year in the predecessor school, however this all
changed when the Academy opened. At first we were concerned about the change, but we have
always felt that since the school became an Oasis Academy, we are able to approach the
staff with any questions or concerns, and have since received prompt and useful answers.
Consequently, my confidence in the Academy and the quality of education my children are
receiving has gone through the roof - the relationships between staff and parents are simply superb."
