Ending child poverty
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Oasis Christmas Campaign which focused on our work with children living in poverty.
There are 4 million children living in poverty in the UK today. The Government is spending just 40p a week on supporting those children; nowhere near enough to meet their target of eradicating child poverty in the UK by 2020.
But financial poverty isn't the only problem facing today's children - many are also suffering from poverty of love, education and healthcare. At Oasis, we believe that in every way, every person matters and all of our projects aim to support those who live in any kind of poverty. From running early morning clubs for children who are unable to eat breakfast at home, to housing young homeless people, to working with parents and carers under pressure, Oasis is showing young people that they matter.
Last month we launched our contribution to the fight to end child poverty in the UK. We asked supporters to sign a petition urging the Government to honour its commitment to the UK's young people and keep child poverty as a priority over the next decade. Hundreds of you responded - thank you - and we'll be presenting our petition along with feedback from the Faithworks' Charities Parliament event on the same issue, to the Prime Minister and the leaders of the other main parties in the coming weeks.
There is still time to sign - if you haven't yet done so or would like to give to the campaign, you can log on to www.oasisuk.org/childpoverty.
