Training to rebuild families
Oasis College has recently launched a new suite of undergraduate, professional training courses for Christians engaged in children's, family support and youth and community work.
The aim of the course is to equip Christian workers with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to support children and young people in the context of family life.
Paul Fenton, Principal of Oasis College, explains the rationale for the course: "Our society is guilty of an excessive focus on individuals and now is awakening to the importance of family, in not only nurturing children, but sustaining community life. We see our role as enabling Christian workers to support families at a time when parents are coming under increasing pressure in their work, home and church life. Our vision is for a new wave of workers that will resource the church and wider society through a holistic approach to children, young people, families and their communities."
The new course includes studies in working effectively with people; expressions of family; motherhood and fatherhood; transforming communities; and guidance in social care standards for professional practice. The programme will resource students to engage with the government agenda 'Reaching Out: Think Family' and enable them to work alongside social care colleagues as professionals with equal standing.
A distinctive of the Oasis College approach to learning is that all students are involved working out their learning, usually with a local church, while undertaking their studies.
