Supporting families in Uganda
Mary is 13 years old. Before she joined the Beersheba project in Uganda her life at home was hard.
She suffered from a stomach condition for many years but her family could not afford medical
treatment. The pain was so great that she had to stop going to school.
The Beersheba project has made a big difference to Mary's life: "My life changed when I joined Beersheba. I was able to see a doctor who treated me with the help given to me by Beersheba financially. I am now able to attend the activities at the project regularly. I have learnt literacy and numeracy and I am now able to write my name and count numbers. Through health, hygiene and life skills lessons I can keep my body clean."
We're committed to working with the whole family which is why we also support Mary's mother. Oasis Uganda provides training sessions on health, agriculture, life skills and communication for the parents or carers of the girls at Beersheba. Mary's mother will also be given training to prepare her to develop an income generating activity such as rearing chickens or goats so she can provide for her family.
