Born Alone Born into Poverty

2000 YEARS LATER, AND NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED

This Christmas, over 4 million children in the UK will be living in poverty. The government is spending less than 40p a week on helping those children.

But at Oasis, we truly believe that children matter; that no child should be living in poverty, whether that's financial poverty or
poverty of health, education or love.

Help end child poverty. Give a gift TODAY!At Oasis projects, children receive care and attention. We are tackling poverty by supporting families in need. We are combating isolation by counselling parents who struggle to cope. We help parents to give their child the best possible start in life.

Every day, four new families come to our London Children's Centre alone. We have to turn many away; we simply haven't got the resource to accommodate those in need. We need your help - not just for our Children's Centre, but for every Oasis project that is tackling child poverty.

Without your support

  • We will have to keep turning families away
  • There may not be anyone to help parents on the edge
  • The Government's promise to end child poverty could be forgotten

How you can help
In 1999 the Government committed to halve child poverty by 2010 and to eradicate it by 2020.
Ten years on, 4 million children are still living in poverty in the UK. The recession is making it worse - it looks unlikely that the Government will keep its promise. You can help by:

Giving a gift

£4 could buy healthy food snacks for children living in poverty

£8 could be put towards adapted special needs equipment so that every child can be involved in activities

£12 could buy 1½ hours of agency worker time to help staff crèches so that we can put on workshops for parents in areas such as managing children's behaviour

YES! I want to help children and families in need.

Pray

Christmas is a fantastic time of year for many of us. But for the families in our communities who are struggling, Christmas can be a real burden.

Please remember to pray for those who will not enjoy a season of good will and peace this Christmas, for their experience is perhaps closer to that of the first Christmas day 2000 years ago, than ours is today.

TAKE ACTION

Tackle child poverty this Christmas by signing our petition to keep ending child poverty a priority for Government in 2010 and spread the word with our festive e-cards.
