Frequently Asked Questions

All participants on Global Teams are overseen by an appointed Teams Co-ordinator within the placement setting. They are part of the Oasis International Staff team, or members of partner organisations, who live in the placement country, and are responsible for all the practical details of arranging your placement. You will also have the support of your church overseer.

You will be challenged to think carefully about how you live out and apply your faith to the context and experiences that form your time on a Global Team.

It is likely that you will face many challenges and opportunities during your time on a Global Team. Together we will look for answers, solutions and ways forward. We will help you discover more about who you are in the process, as well as gaining a bigger understanding about what it means to have a faith that is active and engaging.

As part of encouraging you to live out your faith we will encourage you to live and buy ethically. We are keen supporters of Fairtrade goods and we as Global Teams will use these products in all our events. By joining a Global Team we ask you also to commit to buying Fairtrade goods, and consider other ways of living a responsible, ethical lifestyle.

You will be encouraged to have regular contact with family and friends and all of those people who are supporting you. You will also be expected to write to all those who are supporting you both through prayer and financially, on a monthly basis.

Gap Year Teams

The project begins with one week of residential training.  For March 09 teams, this will be at All Nations Christian College, Hertfordshire.   Training covers areas such as teamwork & conflict, working with people with HIV/AIDS, managing expectations, travel health, working cross-culturally, poverty & development and teaching children.

You will then return home for 2-3 weeks to complete your packing and say your goodbyes, before heading to the airport for your placement. There will be time set aside for training once you arrive overseas, and a debrief will be organised for you on your return to the UK.

Summer Teams

Summer teams begin with three days of residential training before going directly to the airport for your placement. Summer 09's training venue will be decided shortly.

Teams in Uganda, South Africa, India, Los Angeles, Bangladesh and Thailand live in team houses or apartments, sometimes on-site at their projects.  Teams in Mozambique and in some India placements live with families from local churches.  You may be required to share a room with one or two other team members.

Summer teams usually stay in simple guesthouse accommodation, or on-site at the projects as above.
