Placement details

We’re looking for volunteers to work in Dhaka, the capital city, at community projects run by Oasis Bangladesh.

The team will have a focus on STOP THE TRAFFIK, liaising with schools and helping to organise events with young people.

The team will also help for some of their time at Duaripara, a project run in partnership with a local church, for girls aged 8-15 who are at risk of exploitative labour in the garment factories. This encompasses education, healthcare, skills training and family support work.

Team members will assist with games and crafts with the girls, as well as life skills sessions, and making resources for future use.

Applicants must have a mature approach to working cross-culturally and a desire to work with vulnerable people. This team will be hard work, but a fantastic opportunity to work with poor and marginalized people. Are you up for the challenge?

The 3-month team will divide their time between Dhaka and Nilphamari, 8hours north of the capital, where our bamboo processing factory is based. This team will be helping to pioneer community initiatives amongst our factory staff and their families. Backgrounds in healthcare/nursing/social work would be helpful though not essential.

A previous Bangladesh team report on their time in Dhaka:

"we taught...the Duaripara girls, which was lots of fun, and the girls seemed to enjoy and get lots from it also. Our ice breaker was writing something nice about the girl next to you, showing how everyone is unique...due to their culture, the girls have never complimented each other in this way before, so seeing their faces when they saw what was written about them was precious. We really looked forward to visiting Duaripara - teaching is fun!"
