Why go with Oasis?
We know that there are a vast number of gap year providers out there, and the amount of information can seem quite overwhelming. So why should you choose to volunteer with us?
- We send teams (minimum of 3 people) rather than pairs or individuals, so you are part of a supportive group who work, learn, play and serve together during your time overseas.
- We place teams in established community projects run by Oasis or our partners, who can demonstrate a genuine need for volunteers, whilst also being sustainable in the long-term after the Team have left.
- We run comprehensive training for all Teams before departure, covering areas such as Travel Health, Working with People Affected by HIV/AIDS, Poverty & Development, Teaching Skills and lots more. We also include time for team building and personal reflection. For Gap year teams this is a residential which lasts for 5 days, while Summer teams' lasts for 3 days.
- Oasis UK staff are on-call 24 hours a day during your placement, via the Global Project emergency phone. We also keep in touch with Teams as a minimum once a week, both formally and informally, throughout your placement.
- We have designated Teams Co-ordinators in each placement, who take responsibility for organising your accommodation, timetable, orientation, retreat (for Gap year teams), pastoral care and oversight during your time away with us.
-We look for flexible, open-hearted people with a passion for serving in marginalised communities, who are willing to be stretched by immersing themselves in a different culture.
