Oasis: for people & community - Peckham (Housing at No.3)

Do you have a hobby/skill that you could share with our residents in an informal environment? As one of our aims is to prepare young people for independent living, we run regular workshops on various topics to assist them with this. The theme of these workshops can vary greatly, with examples such as Job Skills, Sexual Health, Cooking, DIY, Singing, Art, Fitness etc.

We are always looking for volunteers to run these hour-long evening workshops. We are not looking so much for expert ability, but enthusiasm and availability! Experience of working with young people would be an advantage but is not a necessity.

Would you like to share some of your cooking skills with our residents?

At No.3 we like to create a homely environment for our residents and each week we cook a roast and eat together on a Sunday evening around 6pm. Assistance with cooking this meal would be appreciated and would give volunteers a chance to spend time with the residents here (Sundays, anytime between 4-7pm).

Residents in stage one take it in turns to cook for one another each evening during the week. We would be interested in hearing from people willing to come along and help a resident cook, especially if you have any specialist cooking skills or recipes from different cultures that you would like to share. We also run cooking workshops for this purpose – recent examples were the sticky toffee pudding workshop and the mince pie workshop!

If you have skills in DIY, we always have far too much to do and not enough time and it would be fantastic to have someone to help with such things as putting up blinds, shelves etc

As well as helping us greatly, serving No.3 as a small group could be a great way to spend time together, develop your internal relationships, explore individual giftings and enjoy some unity of purpose. Your small group could support us in some of the following ways:

Prayer
We like to be backed up in prayer in all we do and we strongly believe that prayer brings change in the lives of our residents and equips our staff to provide a better service. We would be really blessed if a small group could commit to praying for us regularly.

Practical Service
Opportunities to serve the project through painting, decorating and maintenance are particularly suitable for groups. Or maybe between your small group, you could commit to taking turns to help with our Sunday roast. If you have other ideas about ways that you could serve us practically we’d be keen to hear from you.

Fundraising/ Donating
Maybe you could do a fundraising event for us. Or you could buy us ingredients for our weekly Sunday Roast, buy Christmas or Birthday presents for residents or welcome packs for new residents. Please note that if your small group is serving No. 3 through Prayer and/or Practical Service, there is no obligation to help us financially!
