Vulnerable Youth Project Team Member

Street children in Kyrgyzstan are regularly picked up in raids by the police and placed into penal institutions. Oasis Kyrgyzstan works in three such institutions: a children's detention center, a reform school and a youth prison. Additionally, we provide a supported living program for reform school leavers. This is an exciting opportunity to assist in the Vulnerable Youth Project as well as being a member of Oasis Kyrgyzstan's pioneering team in Bishkek.

The successful applicant will:

  • Serve as a key team member implementing the Vulnerable Youth project
  • Develop, plan and facilitate life-skills, career counseling, sports programs and/or English as a second language sessions for students
  • Practically assist and mentor the boys in our supported living program.
  • Research career opportunities and arrange job or learning opportunities for vulnerable youth.
  • Participate in the establishment of the Oasis work in Bishkek, including working in other projects as required

Person specification:

  • Have experience of working with young adults and/or teenagers
  • Be a patient and enthusiastic team-player
  • Be creative and an independent worker
  • Have a heart for vulnerable youth
  • Have experience of careers guidance, teaching English (as a second language or otherwise) and/or life skills training for teenagers  
  • Ability to speak Russian desirable
  • Willingness to learn Russian and/or Kyrgyz or improve level of ability necessary
