Urban Seed is a small, not for profit, mission agency which seeks to live the love of God as expressed in the gospel of Jesus Christ by creating on-the-edge hospitality, story, voice and opportunity in the centre of urban life. We are currently seeking applications for residential staff in 2008/9. These are challenging and exciting opportunities for those interested in exploring avenues in Christian community work.
Residential Staff at Central House
The Urban Seed residential community is located in the centre of Melbourne, in "Central House", a nine story building of the Collins St Baptist Church. The role of resident at Urban Seed is designed to be valuable to both the organisation and to the individual.
Residential staff significantly contribute to the running of and the sense of a community in and around Credo Cafe - an open meal and hospitality space. Residents provide a presence in and around the building and model theChristian, non-profit and volunteer values of the organisation.
The residential experience allows residents to:
- Develop relationships with people at the margins
- Gain experience and skills in working with marginalised people
- Develop their Christian faith through practical Christian mission
- Practice hospitality through their home in the city
- Explore intentional living with other Christians
- Learn to balance work (paid and unpaid) and interruption, maintaining care for self and others.
Beyond these core activities, residents also gain exposure to public advocacy, education, job creation, street and hospitality aspects of our work.
Residential Staff commit yearly (January - December) and most staff generally stay for one to three years. Couples are encouraged to apply.
