Map of IndiaOasis has been working with communities in India since the early 1990's. In the years it's been there work has expanded rapidly across the country and there are now over 15 established projects working with people excluded from society -  from street children to women trapped in prostitution.

Pooja's Story

IndiaPooja is a 26 year old mother of three children who lives near the Bandra community project. She was introduced to Oasis six years ago. Before Pooja came to the project she lived in a very poor standard of accommodation and her husband didn’t have a regular job.

 

But since then things have changed for her. With Oasis, she has learnt how to save money, and has made valuable friendships with other women who bring her encouragement. Her children are nine, six and three years old, and they all went through the pre-school classes at the project.

 

Pooja started tailoring classes at the project and she now comes everyday to stitch blouses to sell.
