Our Projects

1. Community Wellness

We believe that health and wellbeing is about much more than just absence from disease. We're about promoting healthy lifestyles, making positive choices and living life in all its fullness - even in our community with no public health service and with an HIV infection rate of around 21%.

Our community wellness project, with a group of local community health workers at its core, provides health education and advice, support in setting and implementing healthy living goals while also providing primary health care services and home based care for those in need.

2. Pre-school teacher training

A good pre-school education can make a world of difference in the live of a child. Oasis partners with community-based pre-schools to help teachers gain skills to provide an excellent education - using whatever resources are available.

Using the locally developed Play-with-a-Purpose curriculum, our year long training programme also equips teachers to run their pre-school as a sustainable small business without excluding needy children in our communities.

3. Skills for Life when leaving school

Being a young person is tough. Being a young person in one of Johannesburg's informal settlement is extremely tough. We work with youth to help them reach their potential.
Our Skills for Life programme offers a six-month bridging course to school leavers, followed by a further six months of support - providing opportunities and hope to talented young people.

We provide training in key life skills, IT training using the Net2Work programme, career guidance, as well as volunteer opportunities at local schools. While also building self-confidence and fostering personal growth through the help of a volunteer mentors and counselors - preparing the students for life after school.

4. Community development

Oasis is committed to see our new community succeed and works with community organizations, churches and local government to turn hundreds of new houses into a vibrant community where families can enjoy doing life together. We also provide opportunities for people from different backgrounds to get to know each other through projects like the five-month Zulu language course we offer.
