Text PLATEUP to 70085 to donate £5 or more*
Thanks to dynamic role model - Marcus Rashford, the UK government has now agreed to extend free school meal vouchers over the summer school holidays. This is great news!
But for families who are struggling and young people who have been out of school for an extended period of time, this is just the beginning. COVID-19 has highlighted inequality that exsited long before lockdown and has exasperated it further.
Plate Up holiday clubs will be running during the 6 weeks to make sure there are meal provisions, youth activities and support with catch-up learning.
Please consider donating. With your help, families can transition away from food parcel dependence and children can prepare for a return to school life after a long 6 months away.
Your £5 donation will pay for a meal and activities for 1 child
Your £25 donation will pay for a child to attend a Plate Up club for 1 week
Oasis works in low income areas where as many as 59% of families live below the poverty line, affecting the lives of 30,000 young people. About half of these are entitled to school lunches but when these stop as schoola close, parents are under enormous pressure to find money for extra meals.Parents often skip meals themselves or live off cereal so their children can eat. Children as young as 5 are going hungry.
So important is this issue, that TV personality chefs Nadiya Hussain MBE and Rosemary Shrager have written an open letter to the press, highlighting the issue and calling on everyone to join the fight to end food poverty which you can read below.
