Launch of Ashburton Park Lodge"No child is safe until every child is safe."

On Friday 29th September 2023 we had the official launch of our latest youth centre in Ashburton Park in Addiscombe, Croydon as part of Ashburton Park Hub. The centre will be a safe space for children and young people in the local community whilst also providing support for parents and carers.

Crucially, the launch also kick-started the ‘Oasis 360’ mentoring programme; a flagship approach to youth mentoring rooted in holistic and therapeutic support, restorative care, and long-term relationship-building.

Andrew Gill, leader of Ashburton Park Hub said:

We want our new youth centre to be a safe home for young people who lack these spaces. We want it to be world-class so that all can thrive.”

The launch took place only two days after the tragic killing of Elianne Andam, a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl. In response, Steve Chalke, Founder of Oasis, said:

Out of Ashburton Park Lodge will arise hope and a voice for our young people. Out of these voices we will mould something beautiful that will be about caring for all of the children in Croydon not just a particular few. No child is safe until every child is safe. This is about the inclusion of everyone in our community. We all have a part to play.”

Yvette Hopley, Croydon’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, also commented:

Success is down to partnership with community. We can not do this alone. This partnership brings together school, the council and the community to create a safe space for young people…Young people having opportunities is at the heart of the agenda of this project.”

The launch of Ashburton Park Lodge nourishes our deep sense of hope that things in Croydon and across London can change for the better. It reaffirms our commitment to persevere with and in our local communities to bring long lasting transformation and to make sure that everyone is included in it.
